CFDA- Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award 2015

So, few of my favorite designers are Betsey Johnson, Vivian Westwood, Patricia Fields, Rodarte, Jeremy Scott, DVF and Grey Ant to name a few.

Guess who is getting the CFDA, Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award this year? Betsey Johnson. Congrats you deserve it. I’m not quite sure why it took so long…nonetheless, you did it at age 72

DVF, told guests at Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center (on March 17, 2015), kicking off the announcement event for the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards nominees and honorees.

After the announcement Johnson jumped – not cartwheeled –  on stage and gave an impromptu, unplanned acceptance speech. “I am so sorry, I just want to say this is the ultimate beyond, Oh My F G moment and I didn’t think I would ever want it because I didn’t want to be 72,” Johnson, in one of her dresses from 1965, said. “I love our  club, I love what you have done with it. I love the money we have raised for AIDs and Breast Cancer and beyond.”

I remember purchasing some of my earlier pieces from both Pentagon City and Georgetown stores..-one zebra printed fitted blazer on sale(of course) for $85, originally priced at $350..Next, was my favorite black ankle tie, distressed platforms (which I still have today, purchased in 1999) on sale for $120, I don’t recall the original cost. Over the years, BJ has been a staple in my wardrobe for her pretty whimsical aesthetic. I find her collections to be both pretty, bold betsey-betsey-johnson-2296615-639-692 BJ5

and feminine, at the same time.

Congrats from all the flower and blonde girls.

The 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards will take place on Monday, June 1 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.

The annual event recognizes the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts, with awards being given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear, and accessories as well as extraordinary accomplishments in journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement.

Let’s take a trip with BJ and her girls over the years…..
